The main event of this evening featured Cain Velasquez, a Chicano fighter from Salinas, CA challenging for the then heavyweight championship belt held by Brock Lesnar (a.k.a. 'The Viking Warrior') of Webster, SD.

This UFC 121 Heavyweight Championship fight was particullary significant in that Cain Velasquez was to become the first person of Mexican descent to ever win a world heavyweight championship title in any combat sport.
